The 2022 NHRI Annual Academic Achievement Award, selected by domestic and foreign experts and scholars, associate researcher Maxim Solovchuk of the IBEN won the "Young Scholars Research Award" for his outstanding research achievements.
Dr. Solovchuk’s research interests cover several areas, including high performance computing, thermal treatment of liver tumor, Chinese medicine (including modeling, simulation and measurements, machine learning). Dr. Solovchuk and his team developed the mathematical/computational model for the treatment planning of thermal ablation of liver tumor, using focused ultrasound and radio-frequency ablation. High Performance Computing on multiple GPUs is used for the prediction of the outcome, which allows to speed-up numerical calculations more than 100 times. The model has been validated by comparing the predicted results with ex-vivo and in-vivo experiments. He has started a collaboration with the NTU Hospital for the development of treatment planning platform for the thermal therapy, radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of liver tumor. The team is also working on the mathematical modeling and simulation in traditional Chinese medicine.
Dr. Solovchuk has been invited to serve as Academic Editor of SCI journal Evidence-based complementary and alternative medicine. He and his team are also working on the epidemiological modeling for the control of Covid-19 spread based on successful implementations of non-pharmaceutical interventions in Taiwan and on theoretical study of Covid-19 E protein. Since joining IBEN, NHRI (in 2015) Dr. Solovchuk has published 15 articles in high-quality journals as a first/corresponding author. Among them ten papers are published in the top 10% ranking journals, four papers in the top 2% ranking journals.
Dr. Solovchuk's research achievements over the years have finally been recognized by the NHRI, and he was awarded the "Young Scholars Research Award" by the the 2022 NHRI Annual Academic Achievement Award. All colleagues in the Institute are honored.
